Paper Architecture

Progress Photos

Progress 1: One of the most complex shapes I created was the one that resulted from this. At first, I was thinking about a football (the English kind). But that didn't feel like what I was making once I began to put it together. It made a half-arch on the sides that resulted in the most complex shape I created for this project. (See image below)

Progress 2: Here, my shape was nearly finished. I still cut off the excess paper that held the shape off the ground, but other than that, it was done. I had to hold it in my hands for a while to allow for it to dry since it was too fragile to be held by a rubber band.

Progress 3: These are some of the first shapes I made. They are basic and largely held together by tape since I hadn't thought about gluing it together from the inside of the project. In later projects, I either glued inside or used significantly less tape. And in some instances, I switched the type of tape I used due to the fact that the original tape was not very good at holding the shapes together.

Detail Photos of Sculpture

Detail 1: In this photograph, there is a close-up on the way the connecters are supporting the triangle. It is managing to hover in the air due to the tight suspension that comes from thin, rolled paper.

Detail 2: This detail photo shows a few different shapes. One of the shapes is made of three parts and placed inside of one of the recessed areas. Another shape in the background is unique due to the way I put it together. Two sides slide into the shape and I pushed one of the connectors through the shape in order to have it suspended.

Detail 3: Suspended tear-drop shaped cylinder.

Detail 4: Final detail photo of the complex shape described in Progress 1 and 2.
